Redefining Health and Wellness in South LA
The day began so beautiful as the Sun was shinning and smiling bright on our heads, as it was truly a vegan affair. Baba's Vegan Cafe, a vegan pop up ran by a local chef Wo'se Kofi aka, Pattyman, a culinary artivist with plans to igniting a health and wellness revolution in South LA.
In response to the lack of access in the South LA area, we want to activate spaces of cooperative economics amongst entrepreneurs and local businesses. The idea is to rebuild a community where we can consciously recycle our dollars in life affirming ways so that it all makes sense. The businesses that came out were there to share not only their products, but as well their stories. Many if not all vendors were vegan, vegan aspiring, or with life affirming creations that encourage health and wellness. It was a great experience, as people from all over LA and surrounding areas came out.
The presentations were off the hook.

We have been doing our Vegan Pop Up for about 3 years now and the people are talking, spreading the word. From setting up in front of the World Stage to being inside the park, it was not easy at first. After much consistency and sharing my food with the community, we have become a staple for Leimert Park patrons on Sunday during the Market Place, and for people in the area looking for delicious affordable fresh vegan food. We have grown and shaped with the needs of our customers, now offering a wider array of dishes.
From vegan patties, cooked plates, raw plates, cakes and puddings. We now have 5-6 different flavors of veggie patties; curry potato, spinach/kale, beefy, cabbage, cauliflower, apple and still have more in mind for when we open.
Shout out to the Legendary Drum Circle for keeping the energy alive.
Vegan Veggie Patties .
Cooking vegan has been a part of my life since watching my older brother cook for us breakfast, especially on the weekends. I can still remember before vegans were vegan and we were just labeled vegetarian. He would cook a breakfast, stir fry potatoes with tofu and mushrooms with a side of grits. My mother would always be throwing down, mostly dinner. She'd cook some super healthy peanut butter gravy with rice type dishes. I decided to keep strong on my vegetarian diet and turned vegan after high school. Most people had no clue what the term vegan actually meant nor what the diet truly consisted of. I graduated high school in 2006, and now in 2017 the term is being brought out the closet. Health as well as how we age healthy is being put to test. Now people are more curious as their diets are at risk day to day, some are in dire need of a diet change to save their lives. For years I have been providing the area of Leimert Park and South Los Angeles with vegan options, walking around and setting up in front of the local businesses. I helped start the Art Walk so that the area would attract more people and I would get more business. I created Baba's Vegan Cafe soon as I became skilled enough to own my own business. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook. We are now gathering funds to get a brick and mortar. Make your weekly orders. #pattyman

Baba's Vegan Cafe Pop Up
We have been apart of the Bananas family for years now. It is always a blessing to be able to share with people life affirming food through our vegan pop up. They love the "Patties" and catching more of a buzz, the vegan chili cheese fritos. We occasionally come out with a veggie plates for those who work up an appetite. Many of the event participants and guests appreciate the options we provide. Below is a slideshow of some patrons who came by and loved our selection this past Bananas event. This month I came out with the bananas pudding with homemade wafers. I came with the new flavor, the berry bananas pudding which is a great fusion, and the crowd went wild.
Make sure you come out Sundays 3-7 in Leimert Park, or keep up with the events and show out. #veganturnip with #pattyman
